Before 19 March 2003, Healthcare sector was divided as follows:-

Public
sector which consist of Ministry of Health Hospitals and clinics and
Ministry of Defense (Military Hospitals).

Private
sector which include around 78 hospitals with total beds # around 3120 bed,
this sector was in efficient and depends on MOH supplies and minor on self
purchasing.
MOH
were depending on centralized purchasing for all medical equipment and
supplies through Kimadia under the Oil for food program between Iraq and UN
since 1996 until Nov. 2003.
Post 10th April
2003
Private
sector shall play an important roll in the development of Health care
services in Iraq and expected to take 50% share of the total expenditure of
Health care sector through 5 years instead of the post share which was only
10% to 90% private/ public.
